EFILING SERVICE PROVIDER CYBERSECURITY BREACH

On Monday, August 19th, 2024, Tristar Software, an eFiling Service Provider (EFSP), experienced unauthorized access by an outside individual. The hacker accessed documents both filed and unfiled from California Superior Courts to whom the EFSP and their eFiling clients electronically file.

Upon researching how the unauthorized user accessed these confidential records it was determined that all the documents came from files filed through the Tristar eFiling system. It is estimated that over 2,000 court forms were accessed during the breach, but the exact amount is unknown.

Hackers have become more sophisticated with their methods and even with constant cyber security vigilance unforeseen breaches happen. Once notified, Tristar immediately began working on the issue. The entry point was quickly isolated and corrected. There is no evidence of access beyond the Tristar eFiling platform and no known access to any eFiling Manager database or document repository.
